Baker Hill Teams up with Oakworth Capital Bank to Enhance Loan Origination and Portfolio Monitoring

Baker Hill Teams up with Oakworth Capital Bank to Enhance Loan Origination and Portfolio Monitoring
  • Loan origination, risk management, and analytics company Baker Hill forged a new partnership with Oakworth Capital Bank.
  • The bank will leverage Baker Hill NextGen to enhance its loan origination and portfolio monitoring for commercial and private client lending.
  • Baker Hill most recently demoed its technology on the Finovate stage at FinovateFall in 2021.

Carmel, Indiana-based Baker Hill announced a new partnership with Oakworth Capital Bank this week. The partnership is the first new alliance from the mortgagetech since private equity firm Flexpoint Ford acquired the company in June. Oakworth Capital Bank will deploy Baker Hill NextGen, a unified solution for loan origination and portfolio monitoring for both commercial and private client lending.

“Our bank’s mission is focused on delivering a personalized experience for our clients, which often means challenging the status quo and reimagining how financial services are delivered,” Oakworth Capital Bank chairman and CEO Scott B. Reed said. “The team is always looking for new, better ways to help our clients achieve their financial aspirations and Baker Hill NextGen will help us continue to do that.”

The new technology will enable Oakworth Capital Bank to enhance its commercial relationships, as well as automate the entire consumer loan origination process. The bank will also leverage Baker Hill NextGen Client Portal. This solution enables clients to submit loan documents online. Applicants also can track the status of their loan all the way to closing, bringing more transparency to the origination process. Additionally, the bank will integrate TruStage (formerly Compliance Solutions) with Baker Hill NextGen in order to automate loan document preparation and ensure compliance.

“With Baker Hill NextGen, Oakworth Capital Bank can optimize their entire loan origination process and continue surpassing their clients’ expectations with a world-class borrowing experience,” Baker Hill chairman and CEO John Deignan said.

Founded in 1983, Baker Hill most recently demonstrated its technology on the Finovate stage at FinovateFall in 2021. In the time since, the company has forged partnerships with a sizable number of banks and fintechs. These alliances include partnerships with financial institutions like Arvest Bank, Salem Five Bank, and TowneBank. Also among the company’s recent partners are tax workflow automation software company FlashSpread, and regional financial services company BOK Financial.

Baker Hill Acquired by Private Equity Firm

Baker Hill Acquired by Private Equity Firm
  • Baker Hill is being acquired by private equity firm Flexpoint Ford.
  • Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Company President and CEO John M. Deignan will continue to lead the business.

Lending-as-a-Service provider Baker Hill has agreed to be acquired by private equity firm Flexpoint Ford. Riverside-owned Baker Hill has not released financial terms of the deal, which is expected to close upon the receipt of regulatory approvals.

Baker Hill will tap into the Flexpoint team’s experience and fintech knowledge and will be able to leverage the private equity firm’s capital to fund product developments and acquisitions. The Indiana-based company will also be able to benefit from Flexpoint’s insight into the needs of bank and credit union clients. As Vilas Nair, Flexpoint Principal explained, the firm can “support Baker Hill’s mission of helping banks and credit unions foster more profitable relationships with their customers and drive economic development in their communities.”

“Baker Hill has a long-standing reputation for being a trusted provider of differentiated loan origination and risk management software, which has helped fuel our consistent growth each year. This ongoing market validation is a source of inspiration for our team and by partnering with Flexpoint we can continue to elevate the lending experience for our bank and credit union clients,” said Baker Hill President and CEO John M. Deignan. “Our team is confident this partnership will provide new opportunities to deliver more value for our clients and the communities they serve.”

Deignan, along with the company’s existing leadership team, will continue to lead the business and remain shareholders.

With $7.5 billion of regulatory assets under management, Flexpoint Ford’s portfolio is comprised of companies in the financial services and healthcare industries. The firm has invested in more than 40 companies since 2005.

Founded in 1983, Baker Hill offers banks and credit unions a SaaS solution for commercial, small business, and consumer loan origination, as well as risk management tools. The company, which most recently demoed at FinovateFall 2021, has received numerous awards in recent years. The IndyStar selected it as a top workplace in Central Indiana, Aite-Novarica recognized Baker Hill NextGen as best in class product, and, most recently, the company received a Product Innovation of the Year Mira Award nomination.

Intuit’s $7 Billion Bid for Credit Karma; FinovateEurope Salutes its Best of Show

Intuit’s $7 Billion Bid for Credit Karma; FinovateEurope Salutes its Best of Show
Photo by Tirachard Kumtanom from Pexels

How’s $7 billion for good karma? One of Finovate’s earliest alums Credit Karma is reportedly the target of what would be Intuit’s biggest acquisition to date. According to The Wall Street Journal, the cash and stock deal could be announced as early as Monday.

Credit Karma will continue to function as an independent company with founder and CEO Kenneth Lin at the helm. The acquisition gives Intuit, maker of online tax filing service TurboTax, another contact point with the online personal finance world. Credit Karma provides its members with access to their credit scores and borrowing histories, helps them monitor their accounts for security breaches and, perhaps most relevantly, has offered a free online tax preparation service since 2017.

If the deal holds up, Intuit will be paying a significant premium for Credit Karma. The personal financial wellness company was last valued at $4 billion, based on a 2018 private market transaction.

With another Finovate conference in the books, our Finovate Best of Show ranks has a new set of members. Congratulations to Dorsum, Glia, Horizn, iProov, Sonect, and W.UP for taking home top honors earlier this month at FinovateEurope!

The victory may have been especially sweet for Sonect, whose Best of Show award-winning demo was also the company’s Finovate debut. The Switzerland-based start-up offers what it calls “the world’s first social cash network” that enables consumers to access cash without having to visit a bank branch or ATM. Sonect offers merchants the ability to grow their business via increased traffic and gives financial institutions a way to extend their ATM networks without the cost of additional hardware.

The Best of Show win was also a first for Horizn. The company, which made its Finovate debut three years ago at FinovateEurope, offers a platform that helps employees and customers maximize the opportunities of digitized financial services. Horizn uses simulator microlearning, as well as gamification and advanced analytics, to promote digital adoption across channels.

And last but not least, a special tip of the hat to Dorsum, Glia, iProov, and W.UP, all of whom won Best of Show honors at FinovateEurope for a second year in a row.
