Taulia Taps Mastercard to Launch Virtual Cards

Taulia Taps Mastercard to Launch Virtual Cards
  • Taulia is launching a virtual payment card solution for its users.
  • The company is partnering with Mastercard for the new offering, which will be integrated across major ERP solutions.
  • Degussa Bank and HSBC are piloting the launch.

Supply chain finance company Taulia is creating another payment option for its users this month. The California-based company is launching a virtual payment card in partnership with Mastercard and has integrated the new tool across major ERP solutions.

Taulia clients will be able to generate virtual cards through Mastercard upon request, which will save time and enable businesses to offer a better customer experience to their employees. In turn, the business itself will have more options to pay suppliers and control employee spending. Even suppliers will benefit, as they will see improved cash flow and better payments visibility.

The virtual payment card solution offers a unique, “bring your own bank” feature that allows Taulia clients to deploy virtual cards and extend the benefits already offered by their existing banks. This convenience comes thanks to Mastercard’s virtual card platform, which connects to more than 80 banks across the globe. Degussa Bank and HSBC are piloting Taulia’s launch.

“We’re pleased to be embracing innovation through our partnerships with Taulia and Mastercard, which will now provide our clients with an integrated virtual card payment solution within the Taulia platform,” said HSBC Global Head of Commercial Cards Product Management Arati Kurien. “Embedding HSBC’s financial services into the systems that our clients use day to day is a key focus for us.”

Taulia was founded in 2009 to help companies make use of cash tied up in their payables, receivables, and inventory. Taulia maintains a network of 3+ million businesses to fuel its clients with more working capital, support their suppliers with early payment, and help them build sustainable supply chains. Taulia processes more than $500 billion each year for its clients, which include Airbus, AstraZeneca, and Nissan.

In the coming years, we’re likely to see more of this embedded approach to supply chain financing. Fintechs will likely explore integrating supply chain financing tools into existing business solutions, as Taulia is doing within ERP solutions. We can also expect the inverse, as well, as fintechs embed other financial services, such as insurance, directly into existing supply chain platforms.

Taulia was acquired by SAP in 2022 for an undisclosed amount. Cedric Bru is CEO.

Taulia and Standard Chartered Team Up to Collaborate on Working Capital Finance

Taulia and Standard Chartered Team Up to Collaborate on Working Capital Finance
  • Taulia and Standard Chartered signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on working capital finance solutions.
  • The partnership will initially focus on supply chain finance and dynamic discounting.
  • The agreement will offer Taulia access to Standard Chartered’s global client base.

Supply chain finance company Taulia has inked an agreement with Standard Chartered this week. The agreement comes in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate across a range of working capital finance solutions.

The two will begin by focusing on supply chain finance and dynamic discounting, two solutions that Taulia offers to buyers. Taulia will use its expertise in this area, combined with Standard Chartered’s global client base, to help clients build a more resilient and sustainable supply chain.

Ultimately, the partnership aims to enable suppliers to access working capital in a more efficient and cost effective manner.

“We are excited to work with Taulia to explore new and innovative ways to support our clients’ working capital needs, as well as extending the Bank’s leading sustainable trade expertise into their business network,” said Standard Chartered Global Head of Trade & Working Capital Kai Fehr. “Taulia’s footprint also complements that of the Bank, offering greater opportunities for us to support companies in the West with their supply chain flows into Asia, Africa and the Middle East.”

Taulia was founded in 2009 to help businesses improve their supply chains by providing financing options with flexible payment terms. Used by a network of two million organizations, the company’s tools help businesses accelerate payments and free up working capital. Taulia processes over $500 billion every year. Among Taulia’s clients are Airbus, AstraZeneca, Nissan and Vodafone.

Taulia was acquired by SAP earlier this year and today’s agreement marks the first MoU that Taulia has signed with a banking institution post-acquisition. Taulia anticipates that having the backing of SAP will help it access further opportunities across SAP’s ecosystem and deliver a differentiated experience for both buyers and suppliers.

“We believe that all CFOs should focus on their cash strategy to ensure growth during these turbulent times and our partnership with Standard Chartered will deliver cash when and where it is needed, especially in emerging markets,” said SAP Head of Working Capital Management CoE and member of the Taulia Leadership Team Thomas Mehlkopf.

Fintech Merger and Acquisition Activity Starts Strong in Q1 2022

Fintech Merger and Acquisition Activity Starts Strong in Q1 2022

While 2021 was a record year for fintech merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, 2022 is off to a great start.

According to FT Partners, there were 1,485 M&A deals in the fintech space totaling $348.5 billion in 2021. As Square’s $29 billion takeover of Afterpay demonstrated, last year’s massive volume is partially thanks to multiple large deals.

This quarter, only eight of the 21 deals initiated disclosed financial details. Of those, the deal volume added up to almost $5 billion.

February

March

While experts predict that 2022 M&A activity will likely see momentum from 2021, there are two aspects to watch out for this year. First, we will not see as many SPACs as we saw last year. This may decrease the number of companies choosing to exit this year. Second, fintech valuations are deflating after experiencing huge rises over the course of the past two years. While the loss in value won’t directly impact the number of M&A deals, it will decrease the deal volume.

Taulia Makes $6 Billion Credit Facility Available to Clients

Taulia Makes $6 Billion Credit Facility Available to Clients

Supply chain financing expert Taulia is making a $6 billion credit facility available to its supplier clients this week. The funds were secured through a JPMorgan-led consortium that also includes UniCredit, UBS, and BBVA.

The news comes after Taulia partner Greensill Finance filed for insolvency earlier this week due to its largest client, GFG Alliance, defaulting on its debts. Taulia expects that the credit facility will help its clients that relied on Greensill Finance by offering them access to a different source of liquidity.

To be clear, the financing is not funding for Taulia itself; it is funding to help suppliers on its platform that are linked to Greensill Capital clients.

“Taulia’s priority, first and foremost, has been to enable businesses both large and small to unlock liquidity trapped in their supply chain in order to invest, operate and thrive,” said Taulia CEO Cedric Bru. “In the current environment, with the potential loss of a funder, our commitment to providing choice has become even more paramount.”

Today’s financing is the continuation of Taulia’s strategic partnership with JPMorgan that began in April of last year. Last July, the financier participated in Taulia’s $60 million financing round that boosted the San Francisco-based company’s total funding to $177 million.

Taulia Garners $60 Million from J.P. Morgan Chase and Ping An

Taulia Garners $60 Million from J.P. Morgan Chase and Ping An

Sometimes the story in a funding announcement isn’t necessarily the funding itself, but rather the investors. That’s the case with today’s news of supply chain finance provider Taulia’s $60 million funding round.

The strategic round, which brings Taulia’s total funding to $177 million, was led by China-based Ping An Global Voyager Fund. J.P. Morgan and Prosperity7 Ventures also participated, along with existing investors including Zouk Capital.

With today’s funding, The Wall Street Journal estimates Taulia’s valuation at $400 million.

The strategic relationship tied with this funding round signals international expansion for California-based Taulia, which already has a global customer base. “Ping An, J.P. Morgan and Prosperity7 Ventures bring a wealth of knowledge that we will leverage to further solve liquidity needs of businesses and contribute to economic growth,” said Taulia CEO Cedric Bru.

“Taulia is at the forefront of supply chain finance technology, with a global footprint that spans over two million SME suppliers and a suite of solutions that dramatically improves SMEs’ ability to manage cash,” said Managing Director and COO of the Ping An Global Voyager Fund, Donald Lacey. “We are excited to partner with Cedric and his team to build out their capabilities in China.”

The investment further deepens Taulia’s ties with JP Morgan. The two initiated a relationship earlier this year that aimed to help J.P. Morgan build a trade finance solution for its clients. “We’re committed to bringing the best solutions in the market to our customers and our strategic alliance with Taulia has been well received by clients,” said J.P. Morgan’s Global Head of Trade, Stuart Roberts. “The investment component is another step in our relationship as we look to better serve clients and their supply chains within our Global Trade franchise.”

Founded in 2009, Taulia helps businesses improve their supply chains by providing financing options with flexible payment terms. Their tools help businesses accelerate payments and free up working capital. A network of two million businesses use Taulia’s technology. The company processes over $500 billion every year. Taulia’s clients include Airbus, AstraZeneca, Nissan and Vodafone.

Taulia Teams Up with J.P. Morgan on Trade Finance

Taulia Teams Up with J.P. Morgan on Trade Finance

One of the least recognized victims of the public health crisis of COVID-19 is the global supply chain. The economic damage from efforts to stem the spread of the coronavirus – from lockdowns to worker shortages to closed borders – has brought new levels of uncertainty to the international economy.

This makes news that supply chain finance solutions provider Taulia has forged a strategic partnership with J.P. Morgan all the more welcome. The collaboration will enable J.P. Morgan to build a “unique and differentiated” trade finance solution for its clients, giving them the ability to onboard a wide range of supplier types and sizes. The new solution will empower them to add liquidity to their supply chain, gain more visibility and control over their cash, and uncover working capital that is “trapped” inside their supply chains.

“With Taulia, we’re better positioned to serve our clients for the long term, allowing them to inject and redeploy liquidity to their supplies, ensuring continued operations during this challenging time,” J.P. Morgan Global Head of Wholesale Payments Takis Georgakopoulos said. Taulia CEO Cedric Bru praised the partnership as an opportunity to combine his company’s “technology and delivery” with J.P. Morgan’s worldwide reach.

“Our mission is to allow businesses to thrive by having access to cash in a predictable and cost-effective manner,” Bru said. “This strategic alliance further strengthens our purpose.”

A Finovate alum since 2012, Taulia most recently demonstrated its technology at FinovateEurope, presenting the Enhanced Discounting feature of its platform. This technology combines dynamic discounting with flexible supplier financing to provide uninterrupted, affordable financing regardless of the amount of cash on hand. The company’s network links 1.5 million businesses across 168 countries, and has accelerated more than $80 billion in early payments via its AI-powered platform.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, Taulia has raised more than $176 million in funding.

Taulia Upgrades with AI

Taulia Upgrades with AI

Alternative supply chain financing company Taulia announced this week it is tapping into AI to boost its platform’s Working Capital, Invoicing, and Intelligent Platform programs.

The new AI engine leverages data on supplier behavior and combines it with external factors to help clients make more precise predictions, and ultimately better decisions, on early payment programs and working capital strategies. Vincent Beerman, Senior Director of Product at Taulia, said that the AI improvements will translate to “less risk and more reward.”

“This is an exciting and massive achievement for Taulia,” said Cedric Bru, CEO. “This step in our product journey is all about bringing knowledge and decision-making to our clients to make early payment programs stronger, more efficient and more cost effective for all parties in the supply chain.”

Founded in 2009, Taulia helps businesses build healthy supply chains by providing supply chain financing options that offer flexible payment terms. The tools help businesses accelerate payments and free up working capital. Suppliers that use Taulia receive financing offers based on their historical payment behavior, the APR they are willing to accept, and their financial standing.

At FinovateEurope 2015, Taulia debuted Enhanced Discounting to the European market. Headquartered in San Francisco, Taulia’s network connects 1.6 million businesses across 168 countries and has accelerated more than $91 billion in early payments.
